Does my medical data leave my phone?
Not unless you explicitly choose it. The core audit engine, PDF reading, OCR, deductible
tracker, and history all run and store data on your device only. The one exception is the
optional Cloud AI (Gemini) mode — clearly labeled and selected by you per audit — which
sends the codes you entered to Google's Gemini API for analysis. The on-device mode is
the default.
How accurate is the audit?
The core engine is deterministic: its findings are arithmetic, not predictions. If FairBill
says a claim line doesn't balance, you can verify it with a calculator. What we can't
guarantee is completeness — if a bill's format isn't recognized or a scan is unreadable,
FairBill tells you the audit may be incomplete rather than guessing. Flags are a reason to
ask questions, and the app gives you the exact questions to ask.
What kinds of bills and claims does it support?
Insurer claim/EOB pages (imported as PDF or pasted as text), paper bills via camera scan,
and manual CPT code entry. Structured insurer claim pages give the deepest audit because
they contain the full payment breakdown. For unusual formats, an optional on-device AI
model can restructure the text — with every number re-verified by the deterministic engine.
I don't have insurance. Is FairBill still useful?
Especially then. Providers quote cash payers the inflated "billed" price, while insurers
pay a fraction of it. Select "Uninsured / Self-Pay" and FairBill compares your charges
against real insurer-negotiated rates for the same services, flags large markups, and gives
you a concrete anchor for negotiating a fair cash price.
What errors does FairBill catch?
Payment math that doesn't balance, hidden or shifted line items, duplicate charges within
and across claims, unbundled lab panels, upcoding-prone visit levels, charges on codes that
must always be $0, coinsurance charged at the wrong rate for your plan, and prices far above
verified benchmarks. Each flag shows severity and the dollars at stake.
What do I do after FairBill finds an error?
The app generates a formal dispute letter from your findings — asking the provider to
pause collections, itemize the bill, and correct the errors. Send it (certified mail is
best), tap "dispute sent," and FairBill tracks the 180-day appeal window and reminds you
before it closes. For claim errors, also ask your insurer to reprocess the claim.
Is FairBill free? How does it make money?
FairBill is free to download and use. The app shows a small number of ads (never before
or over your audit results), and some extras use optional rewarded ads. There's no
subscription and no sale of your data — your medical information isn't on our servers
to sell.
Is this medical, legal, or financial advice?
No. FairBill is an informational tool that checks arithmetic and coding patterns on
billing documents. It doesn't assess medical necessity, provide legal representation,
or guarantee outcomes. For consequential decisions, confirm findings with your provider,
insurer, or a professional patient advocate.
Which devices are supported?
Android 7.0 (API 24) and newer. The optional on-device AI model requires a phone with
enough memory to run a small LLM (about 1 GB of storage for the model file) — everything
else works on any supported device.
Can I delete my data?
Yes — instantly. Because everything is stored on your device, deleting an audit in the app
or uninstalling the app removes your data. There's no server-side copy to request deletion of.
