Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 22, 2026

FairBill ("the app," "we," "us") is an Android application that helps you review medical bills and insurance claims. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. The short version: your medical and billing data is processed and stored on your device, not on our servers.

1. Health and billing data — stays on your device

The following data is processed and stored only on your device (in the app's private storage):

The core audit engine, OCR (text recognition), PDF text extraction, and the optional on-device AI model all run locally. We do not operate a server that receives, stores, or can access your medical or billing information. Deleting an audit in the app, or uninstalling the app, deletes this data.

2. Optional Cloud AI mode (Google Gemini)

The app offers an optional "Cloud AI" analysis mode. If — and only if — you select it for an audit, the procedure codes, insurance plan type, ZIP code, and billed amount you entered are sent to Google's Gemini API for analysis, subject to Google's Privacy Policy. The on-device mode is the default and the cloud mode is clearly labeled. We recommend the on-device mode for sensitive documents.

3. Optional account (Google Sign-In)

You may optionally sign in with Google (via Firebase Authentication) to associate your app usage with an account. Signing in shares your Google account's basic profile (name, email, photo) with the app. Your bills and audit data remain on your device and are not uploaded when you sign in. You can use every audit feature without an account.

4. Advertising

The app shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as the advertising ID) and usage signals to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's advertising policies. Ad requests never include your bills, claims, health information, or plan details. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings.

5. Permissions the app requests

6. What we do not do

7. Data retention and deletion

Because your data lives on your device, you control retention. Delete individual audits in the app, clear the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app to remove all data. If you used Google Sign-In and want your authentication record deleted, contact us at the address below.

8. Children

FairBill is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Security

App data is stored in Android's app-private storage, inaccessible to other apps on standard devices. No method of storage is 100% secure; we recommend using device-level security (screen lock, encryption) as provided by Android.

10. Changes to this policy

We'll post any changes on this page and update the date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app's release notes.
